Johnnie Walker Explorer's Club Collection The Gold Route 40% Vol. 1l

Johnnie Walker has released the second elixir in the Trade Routes Series. 

Dubbed the Gold Route, the whisky - available exclusively at duty free stores - is said to be inspired by journeys made by the Walker family and their agents in Central America. 

We’ve yet to get our hands on a bottle, but here’s what master blender Jim Beveridge has to say: "On the nose, there is an immediate wave of an exotic mix of bananas, mango and pitaya, complemented by a hint of vanilla sweetness. On first sip, the palate embarks on a journey that is as distinct and magnificent as the vistas of Latin America: tantalising flavours, a perfect blend of fruitiness with hints of pineapples, guava, passion fruit and raisins, all balanced perfectly by deep charred peaty notes, in keeping with the signature smoky Johnnie Walker flavour. It is best consumed neat or on the rocks."

Nose: Apple crisps, prunes and plums, soon joined by rich cardamom and black peppercorn.

Palate: Seaside toffees, more apple notes, peanut brittle. Cereals develop in the background with woody spices.

Finish: Tobacco and damson lasts on the finish.
