The distillery A. H. Riise is located on St. Thomas Island, an American Virgin Island in the Caribbean.
Before this island became an American territory, it was a Danish colony.
Around the 1840s, the pharmacist Albert Heinrich was not only allowed to open a pharmacy but also to produce alcohol.

Danish Navy Strength Rum consists of various rum distillates that are up to 20 years old.
The Pot Still process gives the rum its dark colour. It is blended by hand in small quantities and is not cold filtered.
The A. H. Riise Royal Danish Navy Rum stands for the relationship between the Danish Navy and A. H. Riise.
In addition to the usual payment, the sailors used to receive rum as a reward.
To prevent someone from giving them stretched rum, they used gunpowder to check the alcohol content of the rum.
They doused the gunpowder with rum and tried to set it on fire.
When it burned, the rum was pure and not stretched.

Nose: coffee, aniseed, liquorice, caramel, spices, cedar wood.
Taste: Exotic, elegant, bitter orange, bergamot, fruit.
